On June 15th, our 1st-year students visited six international companies in Ehime－ Miura Co., Ltd, Iseki & Co., ltd, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd., and Uzushio Electric Co., Ltd. The students received explanations of the general information about each company’s overseas business development, and learned their efforts, hardships, and successes. They also observed the inside of their respective factories. It was a really meaningful time to spend! We hope our students will make full use of their experience this time to be real global leaders in the future.
   We greatly appreciate the cooperations and contributions of all those who were involved in this visit.

   The first-year students had their first CLIL classes. (What is CLIL? Please check this page.) By taking this active-learning class, the students will learn not only the English skills but also the presentation skills.
   The students are scheduled to have two CLIL classes in this term: Modern Sociology (“Digital Divide”) and Home Science (“Food and Health”). The most enjoyable time comes in the very end of each lesson, when the subject’s teacher, not an English teacher, makes a concluding speech in their English. Watching them speak in a dignified tone, though it must be very challenging for them, we teachers are also encouraged.

   On Thursday, June 1st, 1st-year students listened to a lecture from Professor Sato, a professor of Faculty of commerce at Keio University. He gave us the lecture titled “How to do research on global companies” from the following two viewpoints: “what is globalization ?” and “where to pay attention to when researching companies”. Since 1st-year students are planning to visit local companies on June 15th, and also are starting research program this autumn, this lecture was very useful for them.
